Alpha Door "Classic" Class 'A, B, C & D' fire rated doors are manufactured with our benchmark environmentally friendly and non-combustible composite core material that is engineered and tested to perform in accordance with the latest SANS1253 and SANS 10177-2 regulations.
Fire doors form an integral part of a fire safety plan, their principal purpose being to save lives and offer protection to buildings and their contents. In South Africa, fire doors are a legal requirement, all buildings must comply with requirements set out in SANS 10400: Part T - Fire Protection Act.
Fire Doors must meet criteria set in SANS 1253 (Fire-doors and Fire-shutters). Fire door classes are an indicator of how the door type satisfies the following criteria:
STABILITY is the door's ability to fulfill its design function of keeping an opening closed in the face of fire so that no fissure or opening wider than 25mm develops.
INSULATION refers to the door's ability to prevent the transmission of enough heat to raise the mean unexposed face temperature by more than 140°C above the initial temperature.
INTEGRITY enables the door to resist fire without the development of perpendicular through openings wider than 6mm and longer in total than the largest dimension of the door.
IMPACT TEST enables the door to resist two successive impacts of a sandbag 250mm in diameter, and a mass of 27kg without the formation of any opening wider than 25mm. This test, which is fully described in The South African National Standard - Section 5.5 and 5.6.

We offer our fire doors in a variety of paintable and exotic finishes, to suit the Customer's requirements. Examples of finishes include Masonite, Sapele veneer, Commercial veneer, White Oak veneer and Walnut Formica.
For class D Fire doors, finishing comes in either veneer on external side and concealed steel cladding or steel clad on external side. The choice is dictated by agreed customer what the Customer requires. Double doors are fitted with slam bars / meeting stiles.
